Over 10 years with Escom
Maltech established itself in the IT sector in Malawi by providing ubiquitous services across the public, quasi-public, and private sectors. In 2010, just a year after its inception, Maltech opened an account with the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi Limited (ESCOM) by installing a Local Area Network (LAN) for MAREN office at Luwinga Substation and refurbishing the LAN for Mzuzu and Mzimba offices.
The systems at all sites were in a dilapidated state, and the goal was to restore the entire network from switch to device, to achieve reliable full-time, uninterrupted access for all users. Maltech provided a system that ran concurrently, so the upgrade did not affect the clients’ operations. Since then, Maltech has been working with ESCOM to provide IT services.
ESCOM is a limited liability company that procures, transmits, and distributes electricity in Malawi. The Transmission operates the national electricity grid comprising transmission power lines and substations operated at high voltage levels, while the Distribution provides an interface between ESCOM and its customers, supplying electricity throughout the country and some border towns in Mozambique and Zambia. The role of IT in this instance cannot be exaggerated as it requires a modern digital system to support timely distribution of electricity and digital payment platforms.
Maltech’s provision of IT services to a company of ESCOM’s magnitude highlights the important position the company occupies in the Malawi IT sector, revered and recognized by reputable organisations in the public, quasi-public, and private sectors.
